Shipping magnate Hilmar Reksten’s stately offices in Paradis, revitalised in 2007. Today a working community where property, energy, finance and creative teams share far more than an address.
The project story
When Milepel took over the buildings, the task was to carry them into a new era without erasing the old one. The 2007 revitalisation kept the soul and added everything modern working life needs.
The place
The buildings were erected as the headquarters of Hilmar Reksten, one of Norway’s most prominent shipowners, at a time when Bergen shipping led the world. The architecture still carries the solidity of that era: substantial materials, generous detailing and a calm that modern office buildings rarely achieve.
Vision and concept
Rekstenbygget is built on a simple idea: people do their best work in places where they thrive. Tenants therefore share a coffee bar, a staffed canteen, a swimming pool, meeting rooms and events under one roof. The result is a community where industries meet and ideas travel between floors.
Milepel's role
Milepel owns and develops the buildings, and has kept its own office here for years.
