At the tip of a west-facing peninsula in Fana, where the evening sun settles over Nordåsvannet, one of the Bergen area’s most distinctive residential areas is taking shape. Not as a housing estate, but as a resort to live in.
The place
Skjoldnes lies where Fana meets Nordåsvannet: 43 acres facing west, with a long shoreline, evening sun and the city close by. The neighbourhood tells its own story. Villa Skjoldtun from 1919, designed by architect Schak Bull, stands next door, and around the water lie Troldhaugen, the Marble Islands and Jomfruhoppet. People have always chosen this place.
Vision and concept
The idea behind Skjoldnes is simple: the good life should begin right outside your door. The zoning plan allows around 225 homes with the first phase closest to the water, and around the homes everything that makes everyday life richer is planned. The historic Konow Lund villa becomes a service centre with restaurant, wine cellar and guest suites. The boathouse by the water is being restored as a bathhouse with a beach, guest jetty and room for kayaks and fishing gear. Across the road, a 230 metre environmental park will knit the area together with greenery. And in between: tennis, forest paths, a carp pond, barbecue spots and places to meet.
