EstablishedUlriken, Bergen

Ulriken643

Bergen's highest meeting place.

Hero image: the Ulriken cable car floating above Bergen

The mountain in the middle of the city: cable car, mountain restaurant and experiences 643 metres above Bergen. One of the city’s best-loved attractions, raised from wear and standstill to new life.

The project story

When Milepel acquired the Ulriken cable car in 2007, the goal was bigger than a cable car. It was about restoring trust in one of Bergen’s greatest attractions. The line, the technical installations and the station buildings were renovated from the ground up, a new mountain restaurant was built at the top, and on 1 May 2009 the cable car ran again. Hundreds of thousands have made the trip since.

The place

Ulriken is the highest of Bergen’s seven mountains. For generations, the city’s people have come up here for the view, the air and the perspective, on foot up the trails or floating in the cable car. The concept "the mountain in the middle of the city" was never invented. It springs straight from the place itself.

Vision and concept

Ulriken643 is a meeting place for locals and visitors all year round: hiking and climbing in summer, café and restaurant in any weather, paragliding for the brave and the Topp på Topp family game for the youngest. The top of Bergen belongs to everyone.

Milepel's role

Milepel is the largest shareholder in Ulriken Taubaneselskap AS, alongside a broad group of local co-owners.
